FIFA'22- NOW IS ALL!

Written by Asra | Nov 26, 2022 1:56:37 PM

I'm no football fan.

My roommates are up watching over and over, game after game.

Well, let's not leave out the highlights and analysis too.

So, ultimately, it got me!

So following the flock, as my friends did; here I'm cheering for a particular red jersey team from a different world.

With the question, 'Why are we doing this?'

Curiosity carried me to Google search on the history of the FIFA world cup

FIFA stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association in French; or International Federation of Association Football in English.

The Origin:

It all began on  May 21, 1904, by seven national associations — Belgium, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Reason:

To protect and promote the game of football among the rising smaller games. Also enrich friendly relations among National Associations, Confederations, and their officials and players by encouraging football matches at all levels.

 Vision: Football to be global

Developing football to be everywhere so that there are at least 50 national teams and 50 clubs from all continents that can compete at a top competitive level.

They have undergone many challenges envisioning football to be the world’s most popular sport.

When was the FIFA World cup introduced?

FIFA introduced the World Cup in 1930 and invited every country to participate, but only 13 chose to make the journey to Uruguay.

Since then, the FIFA world cup was held every 4 years pronouncing unity in diversity and with the vision to raise its bar.

The FIFA conducts the World Cup, the Women’s World Cup, the Under-20 World Cup, the Under-20 Women’s World Cup, the Under-17 World Cup, the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and the Futsal World Cup among many other lesser known competitions.

Now in 2022, the FIFA World cup is held in Qatar for the first time in Winter with 32 teams, while Brazil leads as title winners by 5 times with Germany and Italy trailing next with 4 times each.

What got me intrigued and impressed was this particular love for this game which irrespective of many different diversities of race, gender, country, community, culture etc united many nations and hearts globally.

This reminded me that, we at work hold the same spirit.
